Mycoplasma Infection of Cell Cultures

چکیده

This book is a collection of papers dealing with one of the most ubiquitous and troublesome nuisances of present day research in cell biology. Mycoplasma contamination of cell lines in a cell culture laboratory can cause changes in growth and biochemical properties of the cells, thus introducing uncontrolled variables into the experimental system. The papers in this book were presented at a workshop held at the Institute for Medical Research and cosponsored by several branches of the Food and Drug Administration and National Institutes of Health. The papers deal with all basic aspects of the biology of mycoplasma: nomenclature, epidemiology, physiology, and biochemistry. There are practical discussions in which are described various cultural, histologic, and biochemical tests for the detection of mycoplasma infections and schemes for routine testing for mycoplasma in cell culture laboratories. Some of the authors lack consistency in style, footnotes, tables, and photographs. The quality of each paper, however, is generally good and taken as a whole the group is superior to most such collections. There is no better source of current information on mycoplasma and the book is recommended to all researchers dealing with the culture of diploid cells.

درمان آلودگی مایکوپلاسمایی در کشت سلول با سیپرو فلوکساسین و انروفلوکساسین: گزارش کوتاه

Background: Mycoplasma contamination in cell cultures is considered as a major economic, research and production problem. In this study, mycoplasma-infected Vero cell lines were treated by various dilutions of ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin in a timely manner. Removal of mycoplasma contamination from infected cell cultures was evaluated and demonstrated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method...

Isolation and detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae from cell culture by culture and PCR.

Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is one of the major species of mycoplasmas which could contaminate cell cultures. Identification of M. pneuminae is significant because Mycoplasmas could contaminate and have unsuitable effect on the cell cultures. Rapid detection of these contaminations is so important and it could be significant role in preventing and controlling of contamination in cell cul...

A simple method for detecting mycoplasma infection of cell cultures.

This paper describes the overnight Giemsa staining method for detecting mycoplasma infection of cell cultures. This simple method requires no special equipment and has practical application in most cell culture laboratories. This technique has been used conveniently to monitor stock cell cultures for mycoplasma infection over a 12-month period avoiding any contamination.

Detection of Mycoplasma synoviae infection in broiler breeder farms of Tehran province using PCR and culture methods

Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) is an important avian pathogen that can cause both respiratory disease and joint inflammation synovitis in poultry, inducing economic losses to the Iranian chicken industry especially breeder farms. The aim of this study was to use the MS specific PCR and culture methods in order to detect of M. synoviae from breeder farms where located in Tehran province. A total of 47...

Mycoplasma-associated induction of interferon in ovine leukocytes.

A mycoplasmal species, Acholeplasma laidlawii, isolated as a contaminant from a fetal lamb kidney cell line, was shown to be associated with the induction of interferon in cultures of ovine peripheral blood leukocytes. Broth cultures of the mycoplasma induced between 20 and 230 U of interferon per ml in leukocytes from two adult ewes. The amount of interferon produced correlated with the inocul...

Effects of mycoplasma contamination on immunoglobulin biosynthesis by human B lymphoblastoid cell lines.

The synthesis and secretion of immunoglobulin M (IgM), as well as the relative ratio of membrane and secretory mu heavy chain (mu m and mu s, respectively), were evaluated in mycoplasma-contaminated B lymphoblastoid cell lines. The ratio of mu m to mu s was drastically lowered in infected cultures, and mu s chains could now combine with light chains. A 50 to 100% increase in IgM synthesis occur...
